Neurological Conditions

What are Neurological Conditions?

We aim to provide an effective treatment option to manage the physical effects of neurological conditions.

Neurological disorders are those conditions which impact on the body’s nervous system, affecting neurological functions in the brain, spinal cord or other nerve fibres throughout the body. Some, such as Cerebral Palsy, are present from birth whilst others can be caused by sudden illness (Stroke) or injury (Traumatic Brain Injury). Some are neurodegenerative conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis. All of these different types of neurological conditions can lead to physiological structural and biomechanical impairments.

Symptoms

Every individual typically presents with a unique combination of symptoms.

Due to the highly complex nature of neurological disorders, every person will experience their condition differently, with a unique combination of symptoms. Common symptoms include; paralysis, muscle weakness, spasticity, low levels of coordination, high or low muscle tone, impaired sensation, pain, seizures and altered levels of consciousness.

The impact of any of these symptoms can lead to reduced functional independence in some or many areas of everyday life.

Management

Our orthoses work by using strategically placed elastomeric fabric panelling which apply transitional forces to realign the body.

DM Orthotics has developed a wide range of products which can be used in the management of neurological conditions. Each product is tailor made to a person’s needs and requirements to maximise function and limit the impact of symptoms.

The use of our orthoses in conjunction with an active therapy programme can have powerful and positive effects on the user’s quality of life, improving their biomechanical function and encouraging independence.
