DM Orthotics gain environmental recognition
DM Orthotics have recently been distinguished with the ISO 14001 : 2004 award for Environmental Management.
The ISO 14001:2004 sets out the criteria for an environmental management system and can be certified. It maps out a framework that a company or organisation can follow to set up an effective environmental management system. It can be used by any organisation regardless of its activity or sector.
Using ISO 14001:2004 can provide assurance to company management and employees as well as external stakeholders that environmental impact is being measured and improved.
DM Orthotics looked to improve a number of areas of their business including the installation of automatic lighting, reducing employee’s carbon footprint with regards to business travel and setting distinct future targets for reducing its energy consumption at the company headquarters.
DM Orthotics Environmental Team, Trish Smith, Leanne Jose and Ian Smith have been leading the project and acknowledge the importance of everyone’s contribution in the company as well as making subtle but important changes behind the scenes.
“Part of our mission towards receiving the ISO:14001:2004 was to increase awareness of our environmental impact on a day to day basis. In order to do this we drew up a clear environmental policy which everyone understands and can work to. It is displayed in a prominent position in the factory.”
DM Orthotics’ Managing Director Martin Matthews also commented on the accreditation,
“The ISO 14001:2004 is an industry standard which we are thrilled to have been awarded with. It demonstrates our will to be a progressive company with a need for constant evaluation and improvement.”
DM Orthotics is now working towards the ISO 13485 for Quality Management.
