On Wednesday 30th March DM Orthotics attended CP Sport’s first KickStart event of 2016 held at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre, Brighton. Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist Anna Cartwright represented DM Orthotics whilst CP Sport’s Sam Turner hosted the event.
A number of children with varying levels of cerebral palsy enthusiastically took part in the introductory to CP Football event.
The session consisted of a warm-up, fitness drills, soccer skills drills and penalty kicks before ending in a short game.
KickStart was organised by CP Sport to encourage sports participation amongst children between the ages of 5 and 16 with cerebral palsy. The programme is suitable for ambulant and frame users. CP Sport work in partnership with community clubs, who are often FA Chartered Standard Clubs. The programme not only seeks to get more children with CP involved in sport but also supports the football clubs by delivering training and upskilling coaches and volunteers to improve the quality of their inclusive to people with physical disabilities.
After the initial KickStart event hosted by CP Sport the club then holds its own regular KickStart events, allowing children to continually participate and enjoy the game.
Last year CP Sport held 10 KickStart events at different clubs across the country. These clubs have grown in popularity and now attract regular attendance upward of 20 children.
DM Orthotics’ Anna Cartwright got involved in the action,
“It was great to take part in the first KickStart event this year. All the children were absolutely great and I had such a good time getting involved!”
DM Orthotics are supporting CP Sport in all CP Sport’s KickStart events in 2016. A member of our friendly clinical team will be on hand at each event to speak to parents about DMO products, help and advice. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter feeds to see when we will be at a location near you!
