Managing Director selected to present at prestigious US conference
DM Orthotics Managing Director, Martin Matthews has been selected to present at the 42nd Academy Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium for the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists on Friday 11th March 2016, held in Orlando, Florida.
The Academy Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium is one of the most reputable conferences in the United States and landmarks the influence of Dynamic Movement Orthoses in North America.
Martin has been selected to present his recent study, “A Review of Current Clinical Practice in Five Centres in the UK Providing Dynamic Elastomeric Fabric Orthoses as an Orthotic Intervention for Scoliosis Management in Children with Neuropathic Onset Scoliosis”.
His paper presents evidence from a systematic review of clinical notes on 180 children with neuropathic onset scoliosis, 121 of whom had used dynamic elastomeric fabric orthoses to treat the spinal curve.
Martin commented on the opportunity,
“I am absolutely delighted to be given the chance to present this evidence at the AAOP Conference. The use of DEFO’s in the management of scoliosis is a relatively new concept, but one which is garnering more and more attention and acceptance over traditional rigid bracing and surgery. To be able to speak about these outcomes at such an esteemed conference in the United States is a great milestone.”
Martin first trialled the use of DEFO’s for the management of scoliosis 10 years ago and has since developed the DMO Postural and DMO Structural Scoliosis Suits for the management of neuropathic onset and idiopathic onset scoliosis. The suits have been used to great success worldwide in adolescents with scoliosis as an alternative to rigid bracing and spinal surgery.
