“ What I enjoy most about my job is seeing children develop and learn to use their orthoses and then to no longer need them- job done".

Martin Matthews set up DM Orthotics in 2005 and was the first Managing Director and Orthotist. He trained at Salford Polytechnic and the University of East Anglia and over the years has honed areas of speciality that include Paediatrics and Scoliosis. Martin decided to become a clinician because he likes to help people get the most out of their lives and enjoys solving difficult presentations. He also sees massive value in early orthotic intervention as he has seen what a huge improvement it can make to the rest of a patients life.

We asked Martin; When you think back to all the people you’ve helped, are there any cases that stand out?
“The very first child (5 year) who had presented with a 33°Cobb angle thoracic spinal curve for which I prescribed an experimental scoliosis suit, because she had had previous problems with rigid spinal braces. I remember the wait until her follow up orthopaedic appointment where both the surgeon and I would see if the suit had worked. The results of 15° showed an 18° reduction – far more than we expected, which proved that the scoliosis suit was a credible treatment for childhood scoliosis. This resulted in my first ever scientific paper being published in an international journal. Since then, we have treated hundreds of children with similar presentations”.

When Martin is not prescribing Dynamic Movement Orthoses he enjoys racing canoes, sailing and skiing with his family.

Why work for DMO®?

At DM Orthotics we look for people who share the same values as us and people who are looking for a role that can really add value and make a difference to people’s lives.

Some of the manufacturing roles we advertise require little to no training and if you’re willing to learn, full on the job training is provided.

Our clinical roles are based in the field at geo-locations across the UK and every day is different.
