02 / 05 / 2025

Last Week, our Managing Director and Advanced Clinical Specialist Orthotist, Martin Matthews, attended the 20th SOSORT International Conference, hosted in the beautiful city of Dubrovnik, Croatia. This year’s conference was the largest meeting so far, hosting around 400 delegates from all over the world.

The first day was a Pre-Conference Education Day, where researchers, doctors, orthotist and physiotherapist came together to discuss new research, processes and how clinicians can better help manage the symptoms of Scoliosis. Martin moderated the session on Bracing- Principles of Correction, alongside fellow clinicians, Sebastian Hoebink and Silke Auler. Orthotists.

After moderating the three-hour session, which looked at 5 different bracing options and how the various options could help patients manage their conditions. Martin met with Erika Maude and some of her colleagues from Scoliosis SOS.

During the Welcome Evening, Martin had the opportunity to meet with the previous President of SOSORT, Jim Wynne, the Vice President and Resident Director of Boston Orthotics & Prosthetics, DM Orthotics’ long-time American Distributor, as well as the current President of SOSORT, Dr Sabrina Donzelli.

Throughout the day, there was much interest in our product stand, hosted by Gerry Matthews. Clinicians from all over the world expressed interest in our Dynamic Movement Orthoses (DMOs) and as an alternative for patients who struggle to wear more traditional, rigid bracing.

“We noted this year that there seemed to be a lot of interest in alternatives to rigid bracing for certain scoliosis presentations.  Clinicians were able to gain an understanding of the proprioceptive and biomechanical properties of our products and their potential use with their patients for certain presentations.”

Delegates had the opportunity to visit the stunning old city of Dubrovnik, marking the end of the 2025 SOSORT International Conference. The organisers arranged a sunset cruise around the nearby islands with dinner for the delegates in attendance.

We’ve always seen value in attending SOSORT, as the opportunity to share new findings and see clinical research on how to better treat and manage symptoms of scoliosis is one of the key areas we can use our DMOs, like our DMO Custom Postural Scoliosis Suit or DMO Custom Structural Suit.
