Innovation is one of our core values. We’re constantly looking for new ways to further develop our products, not only from a clinical or efficacy standpoint, but also from the perspective of the end user. One such aim is offering more customisation and adaptability, resulting in an orthosis that really benefits the user and is something they feel comfortable wearing. That’s why our new patterned fabric launch has been such a key focus for us this year.
“Since we started, the main focus has been to find and develop solutions that answer the needs of the patient. Along the way, we learn things we weren’t actively looking for, but these insights are just as important as clinical efficacy and quality.
In the case of patterned fabrics, we found our patients want a discreet yet reliable alternative to traditional rigid bracing, with broad customisation options and designs. Providing this, we can help reduce the stigma and self-consciousness so many of our patients have felt when wearing other medical devices.” – Martin Matthews, Managing Director and Advanced Clinical Specialist Orthotist
Whilst a simple idea, this project was a combined effort from people across DM Orthotics and our partners from around the world. We wish it were as easy as picking twelve designs at random; however, we approached our employees to ask their children, our friends and family who were teachers, asked classrooms and their parents and even had an impromptu focus group at a baby shower! These designs were chosen based on this feedback as well as from our international distributors, who worked with us to trial early designs and gather feedback and suggestions from both their clinicians and patients.
Our design and manufacturing teams worked to integrate patterned fabrics efficiently, while not adding any extra costs, time or reducing the quality or efficacy our DMOs are known for. The patterns themselves went through multiple variations, tweaks and adaptations based on the feedback we received from real-world patients and prescribing clinicians.
When we saw the vivid colours on the suits, it was clear we had to do something special to truly capture their vibrancy. Fortunately for us, we’re a proud, local manufacturer in Cornwall— we have a plethora of beaches at our disposal. Putting these suits into a ‘real environment’, combined with the perfect summer's day, our photoshoot resulted in a suite of energetic, lively and engaging photos, showing off the types of suits available to order soon.

Our patterned fabrics will be available to all DMO-trained clinicians from Monday, 6th October 2025. Please note that patterned fabrics are only available for the DMO Custom Advanced Suit (DM09).
