Scoliosis

There are many types of scoliosis detected each year with 10 – 15 years old the most common age for diagnosis (SAUK, 2022). Scoliosis is a condition that affects the spine and is when it curves to the side in a twisted way which can affect patients walking patterns, sitting patterns and appearance (SAUK, 2022).

Sometimes scoliosis has no root cause and at times it can be related to neuromuscular conditions or syndromes, every patients presentation is different (SAUK, 2022).

Our clinicians may see patients with generalised conditions such as Muscular Dystrophy or Cerebral Palsy but can also be asked to assess patients with a localised condition, maybe a Spinal cord injury. We are also asked to assess and prescribe our scoliosis suits to those people who develop scoliosis with no known cause (idiopathic).

Scoliosis would be diagnosed and examined regularly by a scoliosis specialist within your multi-disciplinary team. Within your multi-disciplinary team, a dynamic movement orthosis (DMO®) may be prescribed to help manage some of the associated symptoms of your scoliosis. We have two scoliosis suits that have patented reinforcements that help with: sensory feedback; encouragement of correct muscle function; pain relief and corrective spinal curve realignment, all of which can help reduce and/or slow down the progression of the spinal curve.

Our DMO® scoliosis suits are completely customisable for the perfect fit and the exact patients needs.
